# Texas, not Virginia, has the most data center job postings

Open US postings with "data center" in the title, by state, employer and role, plus the electricians and construction leads whose postings name data centers, on the Metix AI Platform on September 30, 2026.

## Finding

6,721 open US postings have "data center" in the title. Texas has 1,148 of them (17.1%), 1.9 times Virginia's 604, the market the industry is best known for. Amazon posts 1,272 (18.9%) nationally, but only 191 of Texas's, so the Texas lead is not one employer. Outside the data center titles, 2,800 of 26,211 US construction manager, superintendent and project engineer postings (10.7%) name data centers. Among electricians it is 152 of 5,796 (2.6%), and 18 of 125 (14.4%) in Arizona.

## Population and definitions

Open postings on September 30, 2026, in the United States. Data center titles match "data center" in the title ([`queries/data-center-titles.json`](queries/data-center-titles.json)). Electricians and construction leads are matched on their titles ([`queries/electricians.json`](queries/electricians.json), [`queries/construction-leads.json`](queries/construction-leads.json)) and counted again when the description names data centers in any of three spellings ([`queries/mentions-data-centers.json`](queries/mentions-data-centers.json)). State and employer lists are in `fetch.py`.

## Method

Counts only, one API Credit each, 68 in the replay; no posting is read. The national total is the sum of the state counts and one count for every other state, so it never depends on a banded total. Employers are matched on the names the records use; Amazon posts under two.

## How it was made

An AI agent built this card through the public REST API. It read 100 data center titles and 60 electrician postings to check that the matches mean what they say (every title, and 55 of the 60 descriptions, name data centers), and 50 construction lead postings to check that a mention is about data center work rather than a list of sectors (45 name data centers at least twice). Exploration cost 212 API Credits, a first replay on a development copy of the data included; the replay costs 68.

## Limits

A role posted in several cities, or reposted, counts more than once, so these are measures of hiring activity, not of seats. Titles only for the main population; the same work under another title is not counted. One day, not a trend: open postings skew recent, so posting dates say nothing about growth.
